As the seasons come and go, so do fashion trends. I’ve seen many different styles and colors of pants go from being the “it” style/color to suddenly being dethroned by some other style and/or color. One color of pants, however, never seems to be out of style, and that color is grey.

From grey jeans to grey leggings to grey slacks, you can find almost any kind of pants in various shades of grey. Though there aren’t 50 shades of grey, there are definitely plenty of shades that you can make work for your style. 

Though grey pants can be worn as more casual wear (like jeans), for most people, grey pants are another color option for work pants, especially for those who want to change things up and not wear black pants all the time.

But you can still feel free to mix and match grey pants with whatever you have in your closet. 

 

Some fashionistas swear by the rule of three — AKA a color theory principle that states the best outfit composes of three colors, but not black and white (since they’re neutrals). The rule is 60% of a primary color, 30% of a secondary color, and 10% accent.

I think this rule can be great when you’re dressing in a dash or need some guidance. But ultimately, I say go wild, summer child and live your fashion dreams; no rules allowed.

A fashion tip to keep in mind as you’re figuring out styling grey pants would be to consider proportions. Meaning that if you have a pair of looser bottoms, try pairing them with a fitted top to balance out the loose fit. The same goes if you have more form-fitting bottoms, then pair a looser top with them. Of course, you can have fun styling your outfit however you want; this is just an idea.

Here are some casual and work styles that you can try with grey pants:

Grey Pants and a Blouse

The most obvious piece of clothing that would look great with any kind of grey pants would be a blouse. Pairing a blouse with sleek pants is an easy option for a work style or a going-out ensemble.

A black, long-sleeved turtleneck tucked into a pair of light grey slacks and paired with a black ankle boot or flat makes for a classy and stylish get-up for going to work or out to lunch with a friend.

One of the best things about colder weather is the opportunity to wear sweaters. And what better item to style with grey pants during the fall and winter seasons than a comfy, soft sweater?
