Jackets & Coats
One of my favorite seasons is definitely fall. I love all four seasons individually, but there’s something about the cooler seasons that speaks to me.
It’s not only for the hot chocolate and apple picking; the chilly months are an A+ in my book because I get the chance to layer and mix and match so many fantastic pieces.
Types of Jackets
One of my fav things about outerwear is that while we have women’s and men’s jackets, a lot are unisex. Hoodies, puffer coats, and bomber jackets work for everyone.
Besides that, certain pieces can highlight formal and casual attire. For example, a twill or corduroy trench coat is perfect for upscale restaurants and gives off that “foggy night in Paris” vibe.
For office wear, I love a blazer paired with chinos. For casual Fridays, I’ve been known to rock a shirt jacket (aka a “shacket”) to wild acclaim.
When I head outdoors for camping (or glamping), I adore anything quilted. Quilted jackets ask the important questions like, “Do you want to wear a blanket outside?” I’ll layer it with a sherpa or fleece jacket if it gets too cold or throw a windbreaker on top if I’m on the move.
Now — the cold. Puffer jackets, parkas, and shearling liners are all required viewing/wearing. If the weather looks unpredictable, then I always layer — sweatshirts under a denim trucker jacket under a rain jacket. Sometimes the only thing we can predict is that we’ll look fashionable!
Outerwear That’s In
Though we can wear these pieces during any season (who’s to say you can’t wear a sweater on a chilly summer night?), they’re usually associated with colder weather.
Here’s my take on leather jackets and more.
Leather Jackets
Sometimes, when I’m going for a bolder, edgier look without being too loud, I like to go for a classic suede or leather jacket. Not only are these jackets extremely comfortable and timeless, but they can be worn with many different outfits. Some chic variations include the moto jacket and biker jacket — both essentials in my book.
While this shape can be a winter jacket, it’s not water-repellent/water resistant. You might want to toss a lightweight raincoat over your leather (or faux leather) piece.
I’ll usually opt for a classic black jacket like Balanka’s Ara jacket, which is simply a regular, fitted leather jacket. I can pair it with daring dresses or streamlined jeans. I’ll even wear it over a plaid sweater if it’s cold enough.
Even though I do love my neutral colors, I’m a sucker for anything red, so I can also find many ways to pair Balanka’s Camille leather coat with anything too. My favorite designers truly get me, you know?
Knitwear
Though I love jackets, my all-time favorite pieces to wear in the fall and winter are sweaters. Whether it’s a cardigan or pullover, I will almost always pick a sweater to wear with skirts, jeans, leggings, or any bottoms.
Cardigans are some great layering pieces for those cooler days that aren’t cold enough to warrant wearing a jacket. I’ll usually throw on a cardigan over a T-shirt and jeans combo with some boots or sneakers for a cozy fall look. For a 1950s throwback, a varsity jacket over a cardigan is effortlessly chic.
A warm, wool pullover is perfect for those colder-but-not-freezing days. I’ll pair a pullover like the Terraquea sweater from Iris Arco with some jeans or leggings. Or, I may even wear a coat over a sleek denim jacket, depending on how frigid the temps are.
Coats & Jackets: Ever-Trending
Even though some of us may love warmer weather more than the cold, there is no doubt that outwear contains some of the best pieces for anyone’s closet.
There are so many different coats, jackets, and sweaters that I can wear with anything. They provide me with the opportunity to be 100% comfy and 100% chic and stylish.
