Maxi Dresses
Maxis are a fun way to look stunning while feeling comfortable and unrestricted. There are so many different styles of maxi dresses, which means the outfit opportunities are endless.
They are also an extremely versatile item, so I think they fit seamlessly into any and every wardrobe. Depending on how I accessorize, these dresses can be fiercely formal or as relaxed and casual as I like.
Here’s everything I love about maxi dresses and how I make them stand out from the crowd:
How To Style a Maxi Dress
Styling a maxi dress is always so much fun. I love being able to take a dress and use it as the base for an outfit. Then, I can dress it up or down to my liking. I simply base my look on the occasion and build from there.
Accessories
When I wear long flowy dresses with complex patterns, my go-to is a delicate necklace to shape my neckline. The simpler floral prints warrant chunky bracelets and more ornate jewelry.
Sometimes I love to pair dresses in cool colors (like green, purple, and blue) with silver jewelry. When I’m rocking a warm-colored maxi dress (red, yellow, or orange), I tend to choose gold jewelry. Other times, I completely disregard this rule. New fashion trends are all thanks to rule-breakers, after all.
Of course, slides are the perfect shoe to pair with a maxi dress when you’re going for a more relaxed look. Slides are the ideal shoe to pop on and off if you’re wearing your strappy summer maxi dress over a cute swimsuit.
Layering
I also love to layer my maxi dresses. You can never go wrong with a vintage-inspired jean jacket or a slick leather moto jacket. Say goodbye to cold shoulders, even if you’re wearing a strapless short sleeve maxi.
If the weather is particularly cold, I love to slip on a chunky sweater over a long sleeve maxi wrap dress and maybe pair that with tights to keep me warm. Chunky platform boots complete the look (oh yeah, and also my matching purse).
Where To Wear a Maxi Dress
To me, maxis invoke visions of walking down the beach with a large floppy sun hat or an elegant evening out with friends laughing while drinking champagne. They’re the perfect boho cover-up beach dress, especially with an open back and halter neckline. Eyelet fabrics or tie-dye casual maxi dresses really represent that summer vibe.
I also enjoy wearing maxi dresses to formal events, like a friend’s baby shower or as a wedding guest. In fact, that’s the best time to pair a maxi dress with some colorful heels and more intricate jewelry.
Formal maxi dresses come in fabrics like chiffon or with detailing like sequins. A tiered maxi dress with puff sleeves or a high slit elevates the classic sundress persona into a va-va-voom moment.
A Maxi Dress for the Maximum Outfit
The iconic maxi dress is one of my favorite articles of clothing. I never feel like I have to sacrifice my comfort for the sake of being stylish. Maxi dresses are as comfy as pajamas but as sleek as a gown. Three cheers for maxi dresses!
Maxi
The longest and perhaps most elegant dress would be the maxi dress. Depending on how formal or casual a maxi dress is, you can pretty much wear these dresses anywhere.
Maxi: Casual Dresses
I love a flowy sleeveless maxi dress on those days I picnic at the beach as an alternative to the traditional cover-up. Feeling the long, soft material whipping around me with the sand between my toes is simply magical.
Paired with a floppy sun hat and a fashion-forward swimsuit, I’m totally beach ready. For super casual events, I recommended shift dresses, anything strapless, or the maxi tank dress.
Maxi: Formal Dresses
When I’m attending a formal event, like a wedding or a garden party, I also reach for my maxi dresses. The elegance of the length compliments the formality of the occasion. I especially love silky slip dresses for these instances, perhaps with a slit up the side.
