What To Wear With Brown Pants

What To Wear With Brown Pants

You’re feeling inspired. You’re going through your wardrobe to really take a look at all the clothes you own and maybe purge a couple of items. While going through all your various pairs of bottoms, you stumble upon a pair of brown pants. Though you like them, you might not be too sure of what to wear with them, but that’s where styling those brown pants becomes an exciting adventure!

If you currently own or are thinking about grabbing a pair of brown pants and are excited by the idea of figuring out how to style them, you’ve come to the right place! I’m going to come alongside you and guide you along on your fashion adventure.

How To Style Your Brown Pants

Though neutral colors have always been in, brown pants have only recently been making more of a comeback. For the longest time, it seemed like most non-denim pants came in solid colors like black, gray, and the occasional white. Now, in recent years, the color brown and its various shades are joining the lineup of neutral-colored pants, slacks, and even leggings.

Fortunately, like other neutral colors, brown is a versatile color that comes in many different shades, which means that you can wear it during any season. Styling things with brown pants is much easier than you’d think.

Here are some ideas for what you can wear with brown pants. I’m going to talk about slacks, leggings, corduroys, and more, so there is truly something for everyone.

Shirts

As with any neutral color, the first color that would match any shade of brown could be white. Because white looks good with any color, pairing a basic white T-shirt or crop top with brown pants is a simple yet stylish look.

If you want to sport a dressier white top, this Body Bruien Blanco top by Kadu will look amazing tucked into a pair of wide-leg brown pants. I love how this top’s structure commands attention instantly.

For a fun off-white option, you could pair this versatile Top Clásico with your brown pants. This top can be worn in five different ways, giving you extra options for dressing up your outfit.

Of course, other colors pair nicely with brown as well. For instance, if you have a pair of pants that are a lighter shade of brown, this olive green, open-back Blusa Blenda from Sientochenta would make a beautiful outfit. I think it would pair amazingly with a high-waisted pant silhouette.

If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you could try pairing differing shades of brown. If you have a pair of pants that are more of a deep brown, then wearing a top that’s a lighter shade of brown, like a tan, linen Top Greta Natural would be a fun spin on a monochromatic look.

You can add a button-down or front-tie shirt to your brown pants outfit. If you have a darker pair of brown pants, the Lola Top in black from Anana Store Colombia is a stylish way to complement your pants. The deep V provides an opportunity to rock a lace camisole underneath if you so choose!

Knit Sweaters

If you live in a colder climate or are looking for top options for fall/winter, sweaters and jackets are always great options. For the colder months, a deeper, darker wardrobe is all the rage, so dark brown pants are a perfect addition to your fall and winter wardrobe.

This cream, alpaca-wool, Pom Pom sweater by Iris Arco Knitwear would look effortlessly chic French-tucked into a pair of dark brown, straight-leg trousers, as would this mustard-colored cable knit sweater by the same designer. Knits are all about the texture; each variation instantly revitalizes any ensemble.

The sweater you pick doesn’t have to be a pullover by any means. You can always add a cardigan to accentuate your look. This funky, patterned Sincronías cardigan from Iris Arco Knitwear is the perfect layer to add to a white T-shirt and brown pants outfit.

Jackets

In terms of jackets, you can pair any type with your brown pants; your only limit is your imagination. For example, a classic hunter green utility jacket would go well over dark brown pants, especially if worn over a cream, gray, or black sweater. A big beige or camel-colored coat would also be an iconic conversation starter.

I’m here to say it: Black matches incredibly with brown. If you’re up to the challenge, try a daring look by pairing a black leather jacket with your pants, too.

A piece like this Kiah black leather jacket from Balanka is a prime example of my new outerwear favorites. If today calls for a pair of lighter brown pants, rock this slightly cropped, dark brown Máxima jacket and flash your stylish, monochromatic outfit.

Shoes

As far as footwear goes, there are a lot of choices as with every neutral in your closet. As mentioned earlier, white is one of the easiest colors to pair with brown as a top, and the same goes for shoes.

A classic white sneaker would look amazing with brown pants, whether light brown or dark brown. Consider pairing a white tennis shoe with some tan, wide-leg pants or a white athletic sneaker with brown leggings — so fresh.

White ankle boots or pumps would also make your brown pants outfit even more exciting. For example, if you’re going to a party and rocking a black blouse with your brown pants, these white Brina platform sandals would be a perfect pop of brightness.

You can also pair boots with your brown pants. Black ankle boots paired with darker brown pants is a timeless fall and winter look. If your brown pants are more on the cropped side, try going with a Chelsea ankle boot or a longer boot that covers your ankle, so you’re not too cold.

In the spring and summertime, sandals are always a perfect choice. If you opt for lighter, tan pants, a bold pair of sandals like these Emilia Emerald slides would add a fun pop of color to your outfit.

Accessories

As with any outfit, accessories are fantastic additions to what you’re planning on wearing. Adding a belt like this Yamaran belt by Taarach to a pair of tan pants with a white tank top (I would try a French tuck here) is a bold accessory that doesn’t take away from the star of the show: you.

You could also add a scarf, especially to fall and winter brown pants outfits. Something like a chunky knit scarf, an infinity scarf, or an oversized blanket scarf is sure to keep you warm and be a stylish, comfy addition to any pair of brown pants.

Any type of jewelry is on the table. Classic metals like gold and silver can be worn however you like, depending on your particular style. A pair of subtle brown slacks would serve as a fantastic base to mix and match your metals. Pull out your entire jewelry collection because you’ve got all the options.

Walk the Walk in Fashion That Talks

Though I’ve listed plenty of ideas on how to style those brown pants you discovered, fortunately, there aren't too many rules when it comes to fashion. Actually, the only rule I believe in is to wear what makes you happy and feel good.

Your personal style is your journey, and there are so many things that you’ll discover along the way. If you like wearing dark brown tops with dark brown pants, there’s a way to make it work! Your style is as unique as you are.
