The Ultimate Guide for Women on What To Wear to a Club

The Ultimate Guide for Women on What To Wear to a Club

While there are so many pastimes I enjoy with friends, sometimes I really just need to let off some steam and socialize with my besties. That’s when I turn to go out with friends. Bar-hopping, dancing, and just being out with good people is the perfect way for me to meet my social meter for the week.

Half of the fun of going out is being able to dress up in funky and flirty outfits. I love being able to get creative with my clothing, and going out to the club is the perfect time to do that.

Types of Clubs

When I talk about going out to the club, I typically mean a nightclub. While there are also other establishments that use the term club, like a country club, for example, the attire for a nightclub is going to be quite different and unique. For that reason, going clubbing is a fantastic way to express your individual fashion.

What Does “Going Out to the Club” Mean?

So what does going out to the club actually mean? For me, it entails dancing with my besties, drinking delicious cocktails, and socializing with new or old friends.

Although going to the nightclub stereotypically involves boozy drinks, you can still enjoy a night out if you aren’t someone who is into alcohol. To me, the company is what matters the most.

Top Ten Fashion Items for Club Hopping

So onto the most fun aspect of going out: dressing up! You can wear pretty much anything you want to a nightclub, but I’ve put together a list of my favorite articles of clothing to go to when I’m getting ready to go out.

Moto Jackets

One of the slickest items I can add to my nightclub ensemble is a moto jacket. Nothing says “cool chick” like trendy leather jackets

I love to pair a moto jacket with some chunky platform boots. This is especially great if I’m feeling like dancing and don’t want to have to balance in heels. Platform boots can either say 90s grunge or 70s disco — sometimes both at once!

Bright Heels

However, if I’m having a more casual night out with friends, I love adding a good pair of colorful heels to my look. One of my go-to looks is a little black dress with some bright heels.

Mini Dresses

Speaking of little dresses, mini dresses of all types are perfect when you go out to the club. If you want to add some individuality to your look, I recommend wearing a mini dress with bold colors and patterns for a fun night of pop music. For an upscale club, my go-to pick is always the black mini dress — effortlessly chic and undeniably sexy.

An eye-catching look like that is the perfect way to express yourself.

Crop Tops

Crop tops are a nightclubber's dream come true. These tops can be sleek or flirty, depending on the type and how you style them, and there’s more to them than initially meets the eye. Crop tops come in all different shapes and sizes, so you’re sure to find something that reflects your personal style.

One of my favorite ways to style crop tops is through matching sets. A crop top with a matching mini skirt instantly brings your look together. Pair that with some complementary accessories, and you’re ready to hit the dance floor.

Chunky Moto Boots

On the nights when you know you’ll be on your feet often, chunky moto boots will be your best friends. These evergreen boots not only look cool with a mysterious edge, but they also are super comfortable and won’t leave your feet hurting after a night out.

I like to contrast my moto boots with something less edgy and more refined, like a silk dress, for example, or an asymmetrical skirt. To pull the look together, I’ll top it off with a matching moto jacket.

Silk Dresses

Silk dresses are a classic article of clothing and are here to stay. I love to wear silk dresses to more formal events, but sometimes I feel like switching it up and wearing one on a night out.

Perhaps my favorite style of silk dress is one with a cowl neck. That adds a classy layer to my ensemble and an interesting element through the wavy, almost water-like texture that silk forms.

Asymmetrical Skirts

Another fabulous way to catch the eye is through asymmetrical clothing. In particular, I love throwing on an asymmetrical skirt when I’m headed out to the club with my besties. The uneven hem draws the eye and is a unique way to add a new aspect to my look that doesn’t rely on color or patterns.

Lingerie as Outerwear

One popular trend that I can definitely get behind is wearing lingerie as outerwear. The underwear as outerwear trend that rose to popularity over the decades brings a whole new set of clothing into the mix.

I like to style my lingerie depending on my mood. If I’m feeling more casual, I love to pair a corset with blue jeans and a pair of heels to balance out the look. When I’m feeling edgier, I love a lacy corset paired with a mini skirt of contrasting texture, like leather.

Rompers

One of my favorite things to wear on a night out is a romper (or jumpsuit), especially if I plan on dancing or walking around a lot. Rompers are the perfect item to mimic a mini dress while also keeping you nice and covered when you’re having a blast on the dance floor.

Statement Bags

An iconic bag is a great accessory to add to your nightclub look, and it’s functional too. The perfect way to keep all your necessities together, like wallet, keys, and phone, is with a statement bag that matches your ensemble.

Creative Ideas To Style an Outfit for the Club

Color Blocking

A popular trend that’s taken off in the recent decade is that of color-blocking. Color-blocking is the fad that involves pairing multiple blocks of solid color in one look.

You can do this through individual items of clothing, like a contrasting skirt, or through multiple items throughout your ensemble.

Monochrome

The monochrome trend is quite the opposite of color-blocking. This fad’s secret to monochrome dressing is through wearing all of the same color.

When creating a monochrome look, I pick out and layer clothing items that are all solids of the same color. This look is eye-catching and looks iconic with bright colors.

Matching Jewelry

Coordinating your jewelry to all match other pieces is a fabulous way to tie your outfit together. Layering multiple delicate gold necklaces takes pieces that are minimal on their own and creates a new, layered look.

Add some matching gold rings and some gold hoops, and suddenly, you’ve wrapped up your look through these eye-catching elements.

Dressed To Dance the Night Away

Whether you’re planning on hitting the dance floor with your besties, grabbing a drink with some friends, or chilling in an isolated booth, consider the club your personal runway.

Getting a feel for some of the basics of nightclub attire is a great way to leave you feeling prepared and confident when you go out with friends. This is why I wanted to create the ultimate guide to dressing up for the club. This is the perfect excuse to express your personal style and get creative with your attire.
