A yacht party is an exclusive, usually luxury party hosted on a boat or a yacht. Yachts and boats aren’t quite the same — yachts are usually longer than 33 feet (ten meters), but the exact definitions tend to get a bit murky. 

You’ll often get a view of a lifetime from where you are stationed on your boat, looking out on the coastline and seeing your city or the skyline in the distance. It’s a dreamy way to literally get away and get on the high seas in a high fashion and unique way. If you get invited to one of these, you won’t want to miss it.

The biggest thing to note before you head out to sea is the overall details of the yacht party. Things to note include: plus ones, dress code, the itinerary of the night, etc. Make sure you have all your ducks in a row before leaving the dock.

8 Fashion Must-Haves for a Yacht Party 

A Swimsuit

Seems like a no-brainer, but pack a swimsuit! It’s not uncommon for yacht party guests to hang out in their swimsuits often, especially during the day when the sun is high and hot.

Wear one of your favorite luxury swimsuits that really shows your personality and personal style. You can always wear denim or linen shorts over your swimsuit bottoms if you want to feel more covered, but don't be afraid to show some skin. If there is one place you can do that and fit right in, it’s at a yacht party! 

Comfortable Shoes

As tempting as it is, high heels are typically a big no-no when you are on a yacht. They won’t be practical as you walk around the boat or come in and out of the water.

Opt for slip-on sandals or flats that can be easily taken on or off for any adventure that you may encounter while on the high seas. There are tons of cute and comfortable sandals, so make plans to shop for them sooner than later. Note that if the host predicts wet decks, you might feel comfiest in boat shoes, thanks to their white, so-skid, no-slip bottoms.

Rompers or Jumpsuits

One of the best pieces of clothing you can own for some fun in the sun is a romper or jumpsuit. Rompers are perfect for a yacht party because they are fun and flirty, and completely comfortable.

Since it is all one piece of clothing, you don’t have to worry about the breezes blowing anything up or anything being exposed on the dance floor. It’s a safe and fun way to feel secure and stylish all in one. 

Flowy Dresses

You can never go wrong with a flowy dress and an ocean breeze. There is something so classy and romantic about wearing a long flowy dress when you are at the seaside. It’s a great way to soak up the breeze. 

Also, if there is fine dining on your yacht experience, it never hurts to pack a nice dress or two in case you find yourself running into a dress code. A flowy midi dress is perfect for this occasion. 

Wrap Skirts

If you are looking for a casual and cute combo to wear on the yacht, you can’t go wrong with your favorite bikini top and a wrap skirt. This is a comfy and stylish way to stay cool in the summer sun and a little bit of a dressier look than a pair of shorts or pants, perhaps when paired with a bathing suit top. You look great! 

Black Jeans 

If skirts and dresses aren't your speed, and you are looking for something a tad more upscale than denim shorts. I recommend a solid pair of black jeans. You can easily dress up a pair of black jeans in so many ways, especially for a yacht party.

Pair your favorite black jeans with a cropped mock neck and some chunky jewelry for an easy and effortless look. You can also wear a denim-on-denim look and wear a denim jacket along with your black denim pants. Didn’t you hear? The Canadian Tuxedo is back and hotter than ever. 

However you choose to style it, black denim is always a safe option for a variety of occasions, but definitely for a yacht party. 

Sunglasses/ Sunscreen

This is less of a fashionable choice, but definitely a must on your packing list. Do not forget your sunglasses or ocean-safe sunscreen (in case you go for a dip) before you head out to the party.

Even if the party is going to go late into the evening, you will definitely want to keep your eyes and skin safe from the high sun throughout the course of your time on the boat.

Yachts, especially, are very reflective, and without proper eye care, you could be uncomfortable or hurt (yes, eye sunburns are real). Find a pair of sunglasses to match your outfit for the day, so you don’t have to stress and can just enjoy the sunny day.

Lightweight + Breathable

With the sun beating down, you probably don’t want to pack a skintight leather dress or your favorite wool sweater. Make sure that everything you wear or plan to wear is going to be appropriate for time on the boat and at sea.
